Meet Shawn Thurman

My name is Shawn Thurman. I am a proud member of the Sac & Fox Nation of Oklahoma on my father’s side and Southern Cheyenne on my mother’s side. Born and raised in Shawnee, Oklahoma, I am a father, Nurse, straight dancer, and committed tribal member. For the past 12 years, I have called the Seattle area home, where I continue to build a foundation for my sons, partner and myself.

Raised between two worlds, in the Heartland, and deeply rooted in tradition, I have dedicated my life to serving Native communities through healthcare, traditional food knowledge, and community stewardship. My personal story speaks to my journey of resilience, reconnection, and responsibility — a testament to how healing ourselves can heal generations to come.

Our ancestors survived so we could thrive. Our traditions carry the medicine we need today. By honoring where we come from, we reclaim the spaces we were always meant to belong.

I believe belonging is not something we earn — it is something we inherit.
